Who Pro-Line Racing is

Pro-Line started in a California garage with one stubborn idea: a radio control car deserves the same engineering attention a full scale race car gets. Four decades later that is still how we work. Every Pro-Line tire begins as a tread sketch and a compound target, every clear body starts as a mold cut to match a specific chassis, and nothing leaves the building until somebody on the team has driven it.

We are a Pro-Line crew of drivers first. The people who choose our rubber compounds race on weekends, the people who cut our bodies break them, and the people who mix our colors paint their own shells. That is why the Pro-Line catalog reads the way it does — by surface, by scale, by the thing that actually decides a run.

What we make

Four pit boxes hold the whole Pro-Line range. Tires and wheels are the biggest: rock terrain rubber, monster truck treads, short course and desert sets, buggy and truggy fronts and rears, on-road and drag slicks, plus the Promoto-MX motorcycle line. Bodies and wings cover clear and pre-cut shells for the chassis people actually own. Parts and shocks is where the aluminum lives. Paint is the polycarbonate color system that finishes the job.

Across the range we keep the same promise about sizes. If a Pro-Line tire is offered in 1.9, 2.2, 2.8 or 3.8, the insert, the wheel and the hex are worked out together rather than bolted on afterwards. A 12mm hex set is a 12mm hex set — no shims, no apologies.

• Tires and wheels — rock terrain, monster truck, short course and desert, buggy and truggy, on-road and drag, plus the Promoto-MX motorcycle line.
• Bodies and wings — clear and pre-cut Pro-Line shells, wings, scoops and the decal sheets that go with them.
• Parts and shocks — Pro-Line shocks, bumpers, skid plates, hubs and the pit tools you reach for at a race.
• Paint and airbrush — the Pro-Line polycarbonate color system, backing colors, masking and window tint.

How we think about compound

Compound is the single thing drivers ask us about most, so we label it plainly. Our soft and super soft blends bite on clay, carpet and polished indoor surfaces where grip is scarce and the run is short. The medium blends are the all-day choice for outdoor dirt. The harder G8 and predator blends are built for rock terrain, where a tire spends its life being squashed against granite rather than spun on loam.

The tread pattern does the rest. Big open lugs clear mud and move loose dirt. Tight pin patterns keep a buggy settled on blue groove. Ribbed fronts steer. None of this is marketing — it is the same reasoning we use when we decide which Pro-Line mold to cut next.

• Soft and super soft — indoor clay, carpet and astroturf, where a short run rewards a Pro-Line blend that bites early.
• Medium — outdoor dirt all day; the Pro-Line compound most drivers should buy first and judge the rest against.
• Hard — blue groove tracks that the racing line has swept into a shell.
• G8 and predator — rock terrain, where a Pro-Line tire is squashed against granite instead of spun on loam.

Where our parts get used

Rock crawling takes the most patience, so the crawling side of our range is the deepest: licensed rock terrain treads, predator compounds, beadlock wheels and class 1 sizes for the scale rigs. Monster truck and short course drivers want a tire that survives a bad landing. Buggy and truggy racers want the same tire twice, a year apart, with the same grip. On-road and drag drivers want a slick that is round.

Scale matters as much as surface. We cut bodies and tires for 1/8, 1/10 and the smaller GROM-sized trucks, and we keep the popular sizes in production rather than retiring them the moment a new one arrives. A trusted part is one you can buy again.

• Pro class racing — a pro driver wants the same high performance tire twice, a year apart, with the same grip on the same surface.
• Club racing — electric cars and nitro engine cars in the same heat; an engine car needs gearing and air filters watched, while a Pro-Line tire only needs the right ground.
• Rock crawling — class 1 and 1.9 sizes, beadlock wheels and the Pro-Line predator blends.
• Bashing — monster truck rubber that survives a bad landing, and a Pro-Line body that survives the one after it.

Racing in the USA and around the world

Pro-Line Racing is run out of Southern California and the rubber is mixed and molded in the USA. That is not a line for the box — it is why a blend signed off for the pro class in January is still the same blend in December. Our RC tires go out to drivers across the world, to club tracks in Europe and Asia we will never visit, and the proven sets are the ones that come back as a repeat order. Team apparel ships from the same building; apparel is how a crew turns up looking like a crew.

A pro driver stages a car the same way everywhere. Pick the surface, pick the tire, then let the chassis and the engine sort out the rest. We build for electric cars and for nitro engine cars without favoring either, because an engine cares about gearing and air filters while a tire only cares about the ground. An engine car is heavier over the rear axle, so it eats rear rubber faster — that is a tire choice, not an engine fault. Drag racers who stage in the beams want a low, round slick and a low center of gravity; crawlers who stage a line over granite want the opposite. Both are a Pro-Line problem, and both get the same trusted RC tires logic: surface first, compound second, everything else after.

Paint, finish and the last ten percent

A clear body is only half the job. Our polycarbonate colors are mixed to go on the inside of a shell, cover in two light passes and stay flexible when the shell does. Candy and pearl colors layer over silver or white backers, metallics sit over black, and the matte and gloss clears seal it all in. The airbrush bottles and the aerosol cans use the same pigments, so a touch-up matches.

Masking, window tint and backing colors live in the same pit box. We would rather you finished one body properly than owned three half-painted ones.

Pro-Line is part of the Horizon Hobby family of brands. Day to day the Pro-Line team still runs its own design, compound and mold work, which is why the range keeps its own logic rather than blending into a generic catalog.

How do I know which Pro-Line tire size fits my car?

Match three numbers: the tire size in inches (1.9, 2.2, 2.8, 3.0 or 3.8), the wheel hex (usually 12mm, 14mm or 17mm) and the offset. We print all three in the name of every pre-mounted set, so a Pro-Line 2.8 Raid wheel with a removable 12mm and 14mm hex fits either driveline without guesswork.
